I remember those days
in school (boarding house) when I would get a cup filled with Milk and Milo, add
a little water to make it rock-solid or lick it dry like no tomorrow, in my own
heart, I was enjoying lol, no one told to rethink until I had to remove a tooth
then I understood the importance of keeping my teeth clean.
Toothache is that
pain you experience around a tooth and jaw, and the main cause of toothache is either
a tooth infection, decay or as a result of injury. We all need to have a clean and
shinning white teeth and it can be achieved by keeping the habit of brushing
your teeth twice daily(morning and night), doing any of the home remedy that
works best for you often, with or without your tooth hurting. The more saliva
in one’s mouth the less plaque {an infectious disease caused by bacteria in the
mouth} that can cause cavity. Some of the signs of toothache can be swelling
around the tooth, headache, odor or foul taste from the tooth.
Diet plays a major role
in all these, so is important you eat food rich in carbohydrate and vitamins (vitamin B and vitamin C).
An adult needs about 10 grams of calcium in his daily diet for healthy teeth.
Home Remedy: The use of Lukewarm
water will serve you better.
- Mix a teaspoonful of fresh grinded garlic with a small amount of table salt; apply it directly on the affected tooth to alleviate the pain repeat this twice daily for few days. Garlic has antibiotic that can be effective in slowing down bacteria effects.
- Fresh guava leaves can also alleviate toothache. Simply chew one or two tender leaves until the juice starts working on the affected tooth. Alternatively, you can put four or five guava leaves in water and boil it. Allow the solution to cool to warm temperature and add a little amount of salt, and then use the solution as mouth wash.
- Get a mixture of equal amounts of grinded dry pepper and salt with warm water to form a paste. Apply paste directly on the affected tooth on a daily basis, and allow the paste to sit for a few minutes.
- Onions have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that can control toothache. It can provide relief from the pain by killing the germs causing the infection. At the first sign of toothache, chew raw onion for few minutes to relieve the pain. If you are not able to chew it, place a piece of raw onion directly on the bad tooth or gum.
- Mango tree bark boiled and allow to cool, use the solution to rinse your mouth to cure tooth decay as well as bleeding gums. Dry mango seeds mixed with water after grinding to form a paste will also give relief when used in massaging the aching tooth and gum.
- A simple glass of warm water can also help treat a toothache. Mix half a spoon of common salt in a glass of lukewarm water and use it to rinse your mouth thoroughly. When the solution comes in contact with the affected tooth, it will extract fluid from the tissue, and reduce swelling on the nerves.
- Mix a teaspoonful of native salt and apply it in small quantities on the affected tooth, leave it for 5 minutes and then spit it out. This should be done regularly even when the pain subsides.
- Ice cube can help relief tooth pain by numbing the nerves and the gums. Put a small ice cube in a plastic bag and then wrap it in a thin cotton cloth. Hold it on your cheek near the aching tooth for few minutes. You may alternatively place the ice directly on the tooth with carefulness because if you have an exposed nerve, direct with the cold can cause more pain.
