Image from scienceblogs.com
Sore throat happens to people often, it makes one uncomfortable and can be very painful. Sometimes, it is accompanied by a swollen gland in the neck, headache, and common cold. (Speaking some person’s mind lol)

Did you know it can be caused by Viral, Bacterial and fungal infection?
  • Viral infection (common cold, kissing disease or mumps).
  • Bacterial infection (Sexually Transmitted Infection such as gonorrhea-though rarely, infection of the tonsils (tonsils are the two lymph nodes located on each side of the back of your throat. They function as a defense mechanism, helping to prevent infection from entering the rest of your body).
  •  Fungal infection (on skin- foot, ringworm or hair).
Sore throat that last more than 5 days, most times are as a result from smoking, air pollution, if the person has stuffy nose or stomach acid that backs up into the throat(heart burn).

Now our easy home remedies to obtain relief for sore throat:

  • Add half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of lukewarm water. Stir very well to dissolves and gargle 4-5 times in a day. I must confess it’s very effective. Salt will help reduce swelling and clear phlegm (the liquid secreted by the mucous membranes of mammalians) from throat.
  •  Cut into half, 5-7 pieces of fresh garlic and add into a glass of lukewarm water, allow soaking for few minutes and gargle, 3 times daily. Alternatively you can stick a half in each cheek and suck or put it in your cooking. What you need from it is ALLICIN a chemical in garlic to help kill the bacteria causing sore throat. Garlic has antibacterial properties that the body needs.
  • Talk less to help your throat rest very well.
  •   Avoid intake of cold drinks.
*Note that you should see a doctor when the sore throat takes more than a week, coupled with these symptoms: - Severe neck pain, bleeding from the throat, drooling, inability to breath, difficulty to open mouth, swallow saliva or liquid.
