What Can I Do To That Aching Tooth?

I remember those days in school (boarding house) when I would get a cup filled with Milk and Milo, add a little water to make it rock-solid or lick it dry like no tomorrow, in my own heart, I was enjoying lol, no one told to rethink until I had to remove a tooth then I understood the importance of keeping my teeth clean.

Toothache is that pain you experience around a tooth and jaw, and the main cause of toothache is either a tooth infection, decay or as a result of injury. We all need to have a clean and shinning white teeth and it can be achieved by keeping the habit of brushing your teeth twice daily(morning and night), doing any of the home remedy that works best for you often, with or without your tooth hurting. The more saliva in one’s mouth the less plaque {an infectious disease caused by bacteria in the mouth} that can cause cavity. Some of the signs of toothache can be swelling around the tooth, headache, odor or foul taste from the tooth.

Diet plays a major role in all these, so is important you eat food rich in carbohydrate and vitamins (vitamin B and vitamin C). An adult needs about 10 grams of calcium in his daily diet for healthy teeth.

What makes a balance DIET?


Diet is simply what we consume into our body, we all need a daily balanced diet for optimal health and a diet containing all the nutrients in their right proportion is a balanced diet which include Carbohydrate, Protein, Fruits & Vegetable and Whole Grain. They will help maintain our cells for a proper health.

Four major food chain required by our body:

  • Carbohydrate-5%, such as Yam, Cassava, Parboiled rice, etc
  • Protein-15%, such as Fish, Bean, Milk, Egg etc
  • Fruits & Vegetables-30%, such as Orange, Water melon, Tomatoes, Carrot, Potatoes etc.
  • Whole Grain-50%, such as Ofada/Abakaliki Rice, Wheat, Soya, Oat etc
 

Carbohydrate includes our starch and sugar which contain hydrogen and oxygen in the same ratio as water and the primary function of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body to function properly. The two types of carbohydrates are simple and complex. Excessive intake of carbohydrate is a major cause of Disease.

Protein is a combination of amino acids; protein is very vital for the human body, the chief builder of tissue. Our body cannot store protein so we need a continuous supply from our diet. When the body receives protein, it uses only what it needs at that moment and convert the rest into fuel to be used as energy, no matter how great the body needs protein once converted, can never be changed by to protein.   

Fruits & Vegetables contain vitamins and mineral (which are directly involved in the production of enzyme) and a balanced diet rich in fruits & vegetables may reduce the risk of chronic diseases. The amount of vitamins and mineral needed by any individual depends on their body. My advice is, eat at least 4+4=8 portion of fruits & vegetables.

A HEALTHY MEAL TABLE

I have put below a healthy meal table for you, please take note to include fruits and vegetable in your menu, fruit to be taken before meal or in empty stomach (not the opposite of what we do in Naija…lol). *Water melon to be consumed separately because whenever you eat other fruits with water melon, it converts their nutrient to its own. Don't forget to include soya beans and drink lots of water.


Oatmeal has soluble fiber, which acts like a broom to sweep out the dirt in your digestive system that’s left behind by junk food. Best taken for breakfast.

Now you have weekends to explore your kitchen skills. Do all you can to enjoy a healthy meal, also enjoy soup(s) of your choice…

Water melon is originally from South Africa and now very common in East and West Africa, according to research water melon is one of the healthiest fruit on planet earth. You will agree with me that a lot of people don’t know how to eat water melon and that’s because they don’t know the benefits or don’t always get the sweet juicy ones. Cos I know everyone needs it, so there is no more excuse for not eating it after reading this.

  • Water melon should be consumed 20-30 minutes before or after eating other fruits or food and alone.  Eating should include the back as well as the seeds.

#9 Daily MUST do for healthy weight


Having a healthy weight is a thing of choice but information is key. Below are my nine daily MUST do to maintain a healthy weight, and for only those who care so much for good health.
  1.  Get spiritual (Daily prayers).
  2.  Drink at least 2 cups of water first thing in the morning and more water as the day run out. When it gets to 6pm please reduce the intake of water, this will help you sleep much better (instead of waking to urinate at night).
  3. Eat a healthy breakfast and the best time to eat breakfast is one hour from when you wake up. (Means you should not skip breakfast for any reason.

Sore throat happens to people often, it makes one uncomfortable and can be very painful. Sometimes, it is accompanied by a swollen gland in the neck, headache, and common cold. (Speaking some person’s mind lol)

Did you know it can be caused by Viral, Bacterial and fungal infection?
  • Viral infection (common cold, kissing disease or mumps).
  • Bacterial infection (Sexually Transmitted Infection such as gonorrhea-though rarely, infection of the tonsils (tonsils are the two lymph nodes located on each side of the back of your throat. They function as a defense mechanism, helping to prevent infection from entering the rest of your body).
  •  Fungal infection (on skin- foot, ringworm or hair).
Sore throat that last more than 5 days, most times are as a result from smoking, air pollution, if the person has stuffy nose or stomach acid that backs up into the throat(heart burn).
