They can take swallow,
so it won’t look like they are deprived of it but in place of Semo, Amala and
Eba they should eat wheat or unripe plantain with soups. They can also eat
beans (white and not the red beans. Red beans has more carbohydrate than
protein), lots of water melon (especially the back, it is rich in fiber), cereals,
fish, whole wheat-unpolished rice (ofada/Abakaliki), oats, chicken without its
skin on, nuts and garlic. At this point, they need more vegetables like
cabbage, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, onion, string beans, tomatoes, spinach,
Potatoes, Garden egg plant and fruits like banana, kiwi fruits, citrus,
blackberry, blueberries, cranberries, figs, grape fruit, pomegranate juice,
granny smith apples, are highly recommended.
If the person has a
sugar level as high as 180 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter, the person can
avoid fruit like pineapple (especially the one from Cotonou), apples, oranges
(can eat the seeds and the back of oranges though) and on a final note, regular
exercise will not only help to maintain blood sugar levels but will also help
keep body weight down.
